Americans doubt the stock market will climb higher over the next year.

On average, consumers see just a 38.5% probability that U.S. stock prices will be higher 12 months from now. This is according to the New York Fed’s January Survey of Consumer Expectations, released on Monday. That January number is slightly below the historical average of 39.7%.
