The U.S. economy continues to grow, albeit at a cooler rate than earlier phases of the recovery.

A key question lingers: How cool will the economy get?

Economists have struggled to answer this question: They have both overestimated short-term prospects and underestimated long-term prospects.

While it’s true that robust demand for workers and strong consumer finances are among tailwinds bolstering growth, it’s nevertheless prudent to be mindful of the warning signs that the economy could eventually tip into recession.
