Building wealth in the stock market is a multi-year process. For many, it’s a multi-decade process. Investors who can put in this time usually do quite well.

Unfortunately, this time spent in the stock market can be very unpleasant at times.

Take Wednesday’s 2.9% plunge in the S&P 500. It was the second-worst one-day sell-off of the year.

It all sounds bad. Perhaps this is the beginning of a much bigger downturn.

But what we’ve been experiencing lately is well within historical norms. In fact, history shows 2024 has actually been much calmer than average.
