Ari Wald, the brilliant head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer, circulated this jarring chart on Saturday.
“The S&P 500 continues to track its seasonal tendency,” Wald said. “Looking at the last ten pre-election years, an average composite of the S&P temporarily peaks in July and bottoms in late August.”
Ryan Detrick, the bull at Carson Group who’s been nailing the 2023 rally, flagged a similar pattern earlier this month.
To be clear, this is not a suggestion that you should dump all your stocks with the expectation of buying more cheaply later this year. Trading is almost never a sure thing.
